Is the Check Engine Light On? Have you pulled any codes from socket A-2?
Post back any codes and we can try to help you out.

How much millage on car? Does it restart easily after stalling? Does it stall on acceleration, decellaration or at a constant speed? What codes is the car throwing? "if u don't know how to read the codes on your car search this forum to find out"
Without a bit more info we'd just be guessing. Also is the check engine light on or flashing?

Lee, thanks for getting back to me. However, I do not know what to do to test the socket you mentioned and yes the check engine light is on. I did buy a chiltons for this car and have done a lot of this work myself. I have read some of the problems and the research I have done tells me it might be the MAF or fuel filter..... leaning towards the MAF sensor. I apologize for my ignorance but I am a rookie at this mechanical stuff. I am learning and want to do as much as I can myself to save $$$ you know how it isOzark Lee wrote:Is the Check Engine Light On? Have you pulled any codes from socket A-2?

On a '94 you have a terrific on board diagnostic system that requires no tool to read the fault codes. You can test everything from the engine to the power seats.
Instructions on how to read the codes is here. Have a paper and a pencil handy to write down the flash sequences.
http://volvospeed.com/CheckEngine.php
Plug the flywire into socket number 2 on the A side of the box, for most cars that will read the entire engine system.
Once you get the codes post them back and we can at least point you in the right direction.

Lee and Japedo, thanks for the info and the link..... going to attempt to buy the pocket data booklet from the parts store tomorrow, sounds like that is an awesome tool to have for these cars? I can only imagine the savings of knowing where to start testing by knowing these codes. As for the mileage of the car.... it has about 170k and the check engine light stays on..... seems to want to stall mostly at deceleration or idle after being driven for about 20 minutes.......bought it for $150 from a friend ooooops yea a friend. The body on this car is beautiful and once I have the engine at 100% its going to be a great car. I will see about posting up a pic when I can. Thanks again you two and I'll be back around to let you know what I find. Jason

The pocket reference book they talk about is not necessary. We have all of the code designations here on the site.
All you need to do is plug the flywire into port 2 on the A side of the box and press the button - it will then start flashing out a series of codes.

Side A #1 2 1 3 and 1 3 4
#2 1 2 1
#3 1 4 4
#7 1 2 2
the #2 socket tells me its the air mass sensor which is about $190 from carquest, and could not track it down via fcpgroton.....any direction on how to decipher the other codes? Jason

Port A-1 is the automatic transmission.
Code 2-1-3 is a throttle position to high error code.
Code 1-3-4 is an incorrect load signal error.
For those, if you don

To those of you that responded to this query, thanks for the nudge in the right direction. This forum has proven to be most valuable and filled with people that want to help.
I have checked my codes and have reset them. Took it out for a drive and the check engine light stayed off, but still having the same issue of stalling. I checked port A2 again and what do you know code 1-2-1 shows up and as we all know that is the dern mass air sensor, looks like I'm spending another $200. At least I know what it is and can fix it myself
