help please. crazy headlight wiper.

on my 1999 s70, the right(from in the car) headlight wiper will periodically refuse to go back down after use, and even if you try to force it down while cleaning the windshield, it wont budge. however, after about two or three restarts of the car, it will return to its normal position. any ideas?

Sure, it's broken, (common)
Either replace it (expensive) or like I and others do, pull the wire and forget about it

im game for pulling the wire, except i couldnt find it in the 10 minutes i head left in my lunch break, and i havent looked since.so general idea as to its location?

Right behind the wipers on the wiper motors?

Btw, after you take the wipers out and you're left with holes, you'll notice that the holes are on a thin sort of "insert" that goes the whole width of the front of the car. You can replace this with a piece that doesn't have the holes for a cleaner look. You'll have to be patient and look on eBay or Volvospeed or other Volvo sites (or here- what a novel idea!) in order to get a hold of it. I don't think it's available from a dealer- just off of another 850 that never had the wipers.

Easier to just disconnect the wire.
It took me a year and someone from Europe to send me those covers
(and 90 bucks, THEN had to paint them)

yeah, why would you yank the entire wiper assembly and be stuck with those holes, and have to deal with that. just disconnect the wire and just leave the limp wiper.

I've got the same issue with my v70, and am thinking about disconnecting the wire.
Just to be clear: must you pull the wiper arm off the shaft to access the wire behind it??
The motors themelves seem pretty buried in there.

Before you go to that trouble, you may want to check and see if it is the way you use the wiper. On both of ours, if you pull the washer lever and hold for a second or two and let off before the headlight wipers park, then they will go all the way down, if you hold the lever for too long, they never go all the way down unless you pull the lever again for a second. Just a thought, it sounds like the motors are still working on yours.
