2000 s70 Radio weak AM signal

Post by grumpy1937 »

Just in the past year the AM signal on the radio has become weak. If the car is standing still with engine running, signal is clear. If the car is in motion, the radio transmits loud RPM sound. Does not happen with FM. Could it be the power antenna ground? Is there a resistor or noise suppressor under the hood?

Had the same thing happen on my 97 850; the am would be very staticy (sp) and varied with the car speed, not engine speed. It's hard to tell sometimes. The fix at the time was reseating the antenae in the radio. Apparently the socket gets some corrosion.

Thanks for the reply. You're correct, I meant to say wheel RPM and not engine RPM. When the car is not rolling, it's fine.
