90 240dl overdrive switch

Post by birk240 »

I'm a little confused so here it goes: problems with shifting into overdrive
90% of the time. I traced down the relay and it checks out ok, the wiring for the switch seems to be ok and I have no idea to the location of the fuse
that is between the external o.d. on tranny and the shifter box. So with all of that, my main question is how do your remove the o.d. switch on the shifter. I have pushed and pulled with no luck?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The overdrive switch for the auto box has to be prised out of the shift lever. Use a small, flat bladed screwdriver - carefully. Disconnect the wires to remove it completely.

Fuse #11 in the main fuse box covers the heared rear window and 4th (overdrive) gear.

Have you checked the solenoid? They often cause trouble on these cars.

A possibility is to do away with the OD and make it a four speed auto, IPD has a convert part that lets the trans do it's thing without the electric switch. It makes sense in alot of cases.
