850 Head gasket

My 1996 850 T5 with 174,000 miles needs a head gasket but to get the local dealer to do it will cost a small fortune(which I don't have at the moment). How difficult is it going to be for me to do this myself?, has anybody done one and knows the shortcuts?. I am very mechanicaly minded and have changed head gaskets on other cars but having glanced at the haynes manual I'm a bit wary.

Any suggestions or tips? :(
