Service Light reset

Can anyone tell me how to reset the "service" light? I know its schedualed to come on every 5,000 miles and i'm doing the required maint. I hate the light!

850 models 1996 and 1997: Dealer or one of the more expensive OBDII code readers will do it. Check for this feature before you buy one.

If you go to the dealer, call first and ask if they'll do the light as a courtesy (they did for me). Tell them you're coming in to buy a part from the parts desk, and you were wondering if they'd extend that courtesy to you.

While you're there, tell them to max out the interval... I believe it's 7500 miles and 18 months. The interval is programmable.

What year and model is your car?

The earlier 850's 1993 to late 1995 can be reset under the hood using the diagnostic box.

There is a thread on here or Volvospeed that shows you how to use it. Really easy.

Did you check for it here to see if you have the model before OBD II..

On these models the diagnostic socket is in front of the gear stick. Switch the ignition on. As you look at the speedometer on the dash, beneath it opposite the trip reset button is a rubber plug. Remove the plug and with a thin pointer such as a ball point pen, depress the pin. This will reset the service light. "

The reset by pushing the pin (behind the rubber plug) on the dash display seems to be only available for 1995 and maybe some early '96 850 models that have the Yazaki instrument clusters.

If you have the other cluster, you might be able to check ebay for a Draper reset tool or something similar that will turn off the light.

or you could just remove the bulb for the service light since you're doing your own work.
