Odometer problem. How to fix odometer

Post by dimvolvo »

I have 840 1993 nice volvo. 5k miles ago my odometer stopped. I was worry about it cause it is very suspicious... so I bought CARFAX report and found nothing suspicious there, that is a good news but recently I decide to sell my car and I really want to start my odometer.
Is it possible? Thanks.

Sorry I didn't make search.

Thanks, Great job!
I'm not sure I can accomplish that kind of job... I'll try to sell as is.
Any way didn't get where I can get this small replacement gear? I don't think Volvo dealer has it.
Thanks again it was very entertaining to watch all that pics.

If you can wield a torx screwdriver you can do the job. It looks more intimidating than it really is. A helper to hold the dash cap up as you remove the cluster is helpful. If you click on the comment on this odometer gear repair link there are tons of other suggestions and additions.

You can get the gear(s) from Jeff at www.odometergears.com .

I do not know exactly where you are in Toronto, but if you would like a hand with the fix drop me an email.

Thank you, Tailor & Ozark Lee, for your encouragement! Special thanks to Mattew!
I did it pretty fast and painless. At first time odometer starts working but stopped in 1 mile, on the second time it was ok.
At first time I didn't check my Total miles change when trip meter changes from 9-10 to whole mile and spring on the bottom was broken.
My advise: Read Mettew's ifo till the end carefully!
