1993 240GL stationcar back door electrical problem.

Post by kaerlighedsbamsen »

The wires to the back "door" are broken in the just where they passes the hinges in the roof. Wiper/demister/3. break light is not working. Fortunately the numberplate lights do work.

How to fix this is easy: replace with new wires. Done.

But: Is there a smart way to get about this?

And. How to get the plastic in the roof of and access the wires without breaking it?

Wiring through the hinges seem to be quite a design-flaw. Would it be better entirely to re-wire in another place?

Thanks. /Ty

Yes, it is a bad design but I can't think of any other way to route the wires as they do need to be out of the way when you open the tailgate. Others have tried re-routing the harness but with very little success.

These links will take you to write-ups that show how to do it. The first is on a 1989 model but will be the same as yours.
