850 GL 95 Heater fan not working/related to cold weather?

Post by duane »

I have a 95 850 wagon (230,000) had posted about electrical ground issues before. My blower motor has worked and quit working. It quit for a day or so when it got cold. We hit about 50 for the past two days and it started working. Today it was cold again and no blower. Have also been having problems with radio and dash lights. Grounds near battery seem ok. Any suggestions anyone????

Does it help anything if you jiggle the key? It sounds a lot like a bad electrical portion of the ignition switch.

I never tried to jiggle the key, but have tapped pause button,as well as other functions and sound has come in and out of speakers. Naturally Im more concerned with the blower as it needs immediate attention. Just wondering if it is related./OK just went outside and tried jiggling key with no responce.

Either the blower motor brushes are hanging up or the connector to the fan has overheated and it is not making a constant connection. Remove the lower dash panel, remove the connector and inspect it. If the connector is bad it is usually apparent by sight.

I will try that. One more thing, when coming to a stop, the harder I put on the brake, the more my blower comes on.

The same happened to me.
It is the connection to the blower. The plug goes in to the female part. The female part goes into another plug that plugs into the blower. The first connection was good. the second connection into the blower was tarnished. I took it off, put in a mild acid solution(brass connectors are nice and shiney) pluged everything together. perfect.

Thanks for the info. I will have time to look at it in the next couple of days. It may get in the 40's! Did you ever have issues at the same time with the radio and or dash lights?

Took things apart where I can see motor. When I slide my fan speed all the way left or right I can feel these two small blue blugs to the left of the motor clicking. Are these the resistors and does this mean they are doing what they are suppose to do? Tried jiggling some wires near the motor but nothing. I have checked on line for a new or used motor and they run from about 40 to 125 dollars. Just want to make sure it's the motor. Any input?

Those are the Max Fan relay and the A/C relay. The resistor is inset into the air duct between the relays and the blower motor. If the relay is clicking when you go to fan speed position 4 then chances are very good it is the blower motor itself that is at fault.
