s40 2001trouble codes
hi, i'm new to this forum and i've found out alot through you guys. I first want to say that this my first brick of only one month and when it has no problems it rides good. It has 145,000 miles on it and it's very economical on gas but, I can't find any repair manuals on it, an oil change nearly cost me $100.00 dollars and wipers $30.00. My main concern is once every week I get the trouble codes p0301,p0304 to which I clear and I need to know if it is caused by faulty ignition coil, wires or plugs? If plugs and wires (who do you reccomend). also, I need to know if the front brakes are as bad as the back to change or are they simple enough for me to do so with a regular c- clamp? I think you guys are doing a terrific job helping us backyard mechanics with our rides.

Welcome to MVS.
Those trouble codes are certainly misfire codes and can be the result of plugs or coils but since it doesn't happen all the time, I suspect plugs. Look in your owner's manual and find what plugs are compatible and gap them down exactly as stated for your car (sorry, but I don't have your particular car, so it's hard for me to know). Otherwise, you could also get those codes from a bad air/fuel mixture- then we're off on a wild goose chase between vacuum hose leaks, knock sensors (use high quality, higher octane gas as stated in your manual), a MAF sensor, clogged or clogging PCV system or any number of possibilities.

Flattery will get you everywhere!I think you guys are doing a terrific job helping us backyard mechanics with our rides.
The front brake pistons can be pushed back with a C clamp.

I thank you gentlemen for again saving the day, it's nice to know that even though there are no repair manuals for my car I can rely on you guys to help me get the job done!

Like good Boy Scouts we Do Our Best. (It's 53 years since I said that.)
You may consider the VADIS discs from eBay as many of the S/V40 repairs are on there, including the diagnostic codes and brake replacement. In some areas it is better than Haynes etc.
I always advise checking the UK site as the prices have been much lower than those on the US site and with the exchange rate in your favour.........
