Removal of broken s40 antenna mast whip
Removal of broken s40 antenna mast whip
The antenna mast on my 2001 S40 stopped going up and down when the engine/radio is turned on/off. Upon removal of the mast, I found the plastic whip that the electric motor gear cycles to raise and lower the antenna is broken off inside. When the radio is powered on I can see it come up to the point it catches on the lip of the opening down inside where the mast seats (using a flashlight to look down in the antenna hole). I want to avoid removing the motor and/or replacing the entire unit. Any suggestions on how to get the whip to either extend out of the opening or a tool/method to reach down into the opening and pull it out? With it removed I can then thread the new antenna into place. Thanks!!!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Have you removed the nut at the top of the antenna and from just under the nut the adapter tube? If the adapter is still in situ it will be stopping the nylon strip coming to the top.
Bill.
