440 -95 Major water leak from the water pump.

Post by Quickie2 »

Hello,
I have neverending problems with my volvo so here's anither one. 8)

I have finally found my water leakage. I discovered water leaking from a small hole in the waterpump. it seems like this hole has beenplugged before. So why is It now unplugged and leaking?

Is It Ok to just plug the hole or will there be some consequences?

The water pump should have a small weep hole at the bottom to allow water to escape if and when the water pump goes faulty. Blocking this hole will stop the water running out but it will collect in the water pump causing more problems.

Ok, thanks. I'll order a new pump.
Is there anything I should think of when changing It, Is it necessary to release the cambelt?

Here are the VADIS instructions:

The special tools referred to are for checking the tension of the belt. I have never used them. Find the longest run on the belt and press firmly with your thumb on the centre of the run. If it deflects about 3mm the tension is correct.

There is no need to disturb the cam belt although you do remove the timing cover.
