My Son left the dome light on in my wife’s 1999 S70 and killed the battery.
After jump starting the car, the check engine light is on, along with the flashing up arrow. The car drives like its stuck in 3rd gear.
The battery was looking poor so I replaced it and left the car disconnected for about 40 minutes hoping to reset the computer. Still the same issues.
My friend pulled the following codes:
P0751 shift solenoid a performance or stuck off
P0605 internal control module read only memory (rom) error
What should I do next?
Should I replace the shift solenoid?
Thanks for any help!!
Dave

Step 1 is to clear the codes. That may fix everything. Some code readers have a clear/reset function and others don't.

P1618 may be a bad PNP switch; but I hope it might be simpler than that. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Go to lunch. When you return, turn the key to the "II" position, then reconnect the negative battery cable. See if that helps anything...it might be that the battery voltage got low enough to make the car quit working, but not zero which confused the computers.Dave K wrote:We did clear the codes but then it had the p1618 code and the car still does all the same stuff.

Was the car jumped after this battery died?Dave K wrote:I tried that but it is still doing the same stuff. Should I change the PNP switch?

I couldn't get it out my mind that 'cooked TCM' might be on the probables list. It's low on the list, but it's still likely. Does your friend have a scanner that can scan transmission generic codes (some units, such as the AutoXRay 5000-6000 can do this)?Dave K wrote:Yes I jump started it with my 850 T5 and it started having problems as soon as it started

Finally to it to a Volvo shop. They changed the PNP and it did not fix it. So he put a good used TCM in to see if that was the problem and it was not it ether. He tested the trans solenoids and they seem fine. Next he wanted to change the trans. I am going to take it to a trans shop and see what they say and if all else fails put a used trans in it.
Any other ideas on what could be the problem?
Thanks
Dave
