2001 Volvo S40 missing key/remote

Post by thisisranda »

Hi,I bought my car with only one set of car keys, it usually comes with 2 keys and a remote to lock/unlock. I called the volvo dealer they said I need to pay $225 for the key and another $225 for the remote. Any idea if I bought another S40 remote if I can program it myself or I still need to take it to the dealership. Also concerning the key, where can I find the key code so the keysmith can make me another key. Thanks...

I know you can buy the unprogrammed keys off of ebay for like $20. You need some special serial number that was sold with the car for the keys. The car dealership wouldnt have this, only the person who originally bought the car. You cant do anything without it.

I have been told you can go to a volvo dearlership, and some can still do it, but it will run $300 minimum.

maybe someone else has some more information
