Dirty engine S40 2001

Post by Pomerol »

While getting an oil change last week, I was told that my 2001 S40 had a common problem of building up deposits in the engine and that I needed an "engine cleaning" which I assumed was going to be quite expensive.

Has anyone ever had this problem or can someone confirm the frequent occurrence of this diagnostic?

Thanks in advance

If I can give you some advice. I have worked in lube shops for 20+ years. Engine cleaning is the biggest scam in the world and the WORST thing you can do to your engine if it has sludge. Here is what happens. They ad the cleaner to the oil, which is basically kero and then all the sludge in the motor goes down into the oil pan and gets sucked up by the oil pump. Now you have a clogged screen on the oil pump and you loose oil pressure an seize up you motor. The best thing to do is change the oil more often until the engine comes clean. I have done this with cars that have been neglected and after 1500 miles changed the oil. About 3 to 4 canges and the oil comes out clean. You can also do the old time trick and ad a quart of transmission fluid to the engine which is high detergent and will clean great. It WILL NOT hurt you engine. Trans fluid lubricates better that oil it just too high in detergent
Hope this helps
