2001 s40 turbo
128,k miles
When I drive and barely put my foot on the gas, it runs smooth. If I put it under a load, (press to pass) it spits and spudders ALOT. If I mash the pedal down to the floor, it doesnt act like it used to but it does run smoother and the check engine light flashes.
I took it to have the codes checked. It was misfire on cyl 1-3, Oxygen sensor and the throddle control. I replaced the coil packs and it ran perfect for about 10 minutes. Then it went right back. I decided to replace the oxygen sensor on the firewall. Same thing.
I took it to a repair shop that said they work on alot of volvo's. I was told they think it is the head gasket. I really disagree with this so I decided not to spend the $1800.00 to have them fix it. I am thinking it maybe the computer. Does anyone have any ideas? I have used carb cleaner and looked for a vaccum leak but all appeared ok. one other thing that makes me think this may be it and it may be unrelated.... My heater/air motor speed will change on its own sometimes.

When I changed the coil, I changed the spark plugs (twice) and the wires.

OK. Probably not the plugs then. Can you read the codes again now that you have changed out those parts?

I can see why he's asking what he's asking. I had the same problem and it was my coils. I changed the coils, wires, and plugs. I also had a similar problem and it was an air hose of about 1/3 inch diameter that goes in just below the south east corner of the motor when you're facing it. If it comes completely out, your motor will shut off at low speed and won't turn on again.
