I just called my local Volvo dealer and was told that the CNN/Money report "jumped the gun" on Volvo.

According to the service guy I spoke to, Volvo isn't going to (officially) announce the recall until late Dec/early Jan and the vehicles affected will be identified through DOT records and owners will be notified if their vehicle is part of the recall.

I just took my car to a Volvo dealer for normal service and asked about this recall. The guy told me that the recall would not be required in my car.

I drive a 2000 S80- 2.9

I picked up the car Friday afternoon, he commented that he had heard about the recall but that Volvo had not yet sent the tech alert to all the service dealers. He was waiting for this to take action, the alert would specify part numbers, etc. that are required to be changed.
