S70 T5 2000 5-speed manual FWD... with a U-Haul installed hitch (had dealer install it when I bought the car new and they had it down by U-Haul).
I believe from reading around that my Volvo has around a 3,200 lb rated tow capacity (though I think it's less for a manual transmission?)... though I think I've read that the tounge weight it's rated for is maybe only a couple hundred?
I'm relatively sure I could tow most of the 18 to 23 foot sailboats out there with either a swing keel or shoal draft fixed keel. The problem I fear is that I'd be able to launch (put in the water) but may have trouble retreiving her afterwards with my car stuck no the boat ramp spinning my front tires.
Anyone have any experience? Lots of Catalina 22's out there seem to be an endless supply of makes out there.
Thanks, Jeff

your five speed should tow more than an auto because a) the unit itself is lighter therefore increasing power to weight ratio (as well as decreasing MOI within the unit) b) it should be internally stronger than an automatic equivalent. the possible downsides could be a drivers inability to effectively (smoothly) put the power to the ground causing tire spin or stall. however, tire spin could be remedied by a second gear launch depending on your clutch skill. care should be given to not burn your clutch. your tongue weight and tow capacities are described as this: tow capacity is the overall weight of the load you are towing--mostly limited by brake ability and clutch strength, whereas the tongue capacity is the unbalanced weight of the trailer forward of the trailers axle(s). this in a good trailer is will be minimal. usually just enough to keep the trailer on the ball and limit trailer sway caused by a rear heavy trailer.
