MAP sensor location on 850's

We think that my buddy's V70 has a bad MAP sensor (codes 107/108), but new ones are around $150 or more. I have an 850 parts car and wonder if it has one. I discovered that IPD sells the same part for 850s and 98 V70s so I looked in the same location as the V70 and it's not there- is there one on this 96 850 and where is it located? (It's this small little sensor with a 3 prong connector and bolts on to the right inner fender of the V70 right ahead of the wiper washer filler.) Thanks.

Some of these have them right under the front of the intake manifold- look there for the same/similar sensor.

Thanks again to all you gents who replied to my dilema. It has been verified by a local Volvo dealer that this model car (2.4L) with Bosch type of fuel injection system DOES NOT have an MAP. It does have however a MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor instead. Anyway, thanks a bunch!

Interesting- but MAP and MAF are two totally different creatures...don't know how your dealer said that because their's a MAF it doesn't have a MAP...all Volvo's that I know of have MAF's. From what I understand, the MAP sensor adjust air by way of sensing atmospheric pressure differences related to altitude- like if you were in Denver compared to Death Valley.

Perhaps you are correct, but I could not find it after long time search. The Hanes Manual (however far from perfect) has a problem code (1-2-1) for MAP with a Fenix 5.2 system, but with the Motronic 4.3 system the same code points to a problem with the MAF (by the way the book shows the identical code for a LH3.2-Jetronix system). So, I am back to square one. If you know the location of the MAP of my Volvo or possible solutions, after all the maual identified possible causes have been investigated for "engine starts but stops immediately", I would be very, very grateful.

I'm sorry that I may have implied that your car has a MAP sensor- I was trying to say MAP and MAF are two different things (although they do both sense oxygen changes that help regulate the mixture) and it was odd to me that the dealer said there is no MAF because instead there is a MAF because all Volvos have MAF's.... Anyway, in your case, if you don't have a MAP, I would try cleaning the MAF sensor first and see if that makes a difference. If this is not it, you could try to use a good working MAF from another 850 (same Fenix system) and see if this helps before plopping down the big bucks on a new one. A lot of times, MAF issues are also due to leaking vacuum hoses and/or actually an oxygen sensor going south. Good luck with your search for a solution.
