2003 V70 Wagon E-brake woes

Post by pgbuick »

Just aquired a 2003 V70 wagon. Investigating why the ebrake wasn't holding very well found the drivers side ebrake assy completely missing! And the aluminum lug that is part of the spindle support is sheared off. Shoes and all hardware is missing. With this brake design I am guessing this is fairly common - a shoe lets go and wipes out all the guts inside the drum portion of the rotor. So I am looking for a backing plate and all hardware and maybe the aluminum spindle support (not sure what it's called). or maybe I will fasten my own block on the face of what's left in there to support the aft end of the shoes. What year and model rear brakes and suspension hardware are same? V70 sedans and V70 wagons (FWD only)? Any suggestions or parts info appreciated.
Thanks

I believe '01-'07 use the same parts there (except AWD). Yes, this is not an uncommon issue- usually what happens is that the e-brake is left in place for awhile and rusts to the plate then doesn't disengage...when you drive off it just basically tears apart. Not a great design unless you drive your car everyday.

I would stick with OEM on these parts- call Don or Jamie in the parts dept. at Darrell Waltrip Volvo- tell them you're on the forum here and they'll cut you a deal that is better than a lot of on-line stores and even third party parts (which I wouldn't trust for this application). Good luck and let us know how it goes.
