V70/XC 1999 Rear window won't go up?

Post by brtff20 »

OK, I have a rear window that will go down but won't go up. I tested the motor with direct current the window goes up and down, Next i replaced the control switch after finding out they tend to go bad. Window won't go up again even though i put in the new switch. I ran voltage through all the wiring and the meter says there aren't any bad wires. I 'm not sure what else it could be if anyone's got any ideas i'd be glad to hear them. Thanks.

Maybe your rear switch is shorted out? Try unplugging it and then operating the window with your master switch. Or else swap the two rear switches and see if the problem follows the switch.

Usually, it is the Driver's door switch that goes bad in the master switch. There is a plastic slide that gets worn down from frequent use. I've looked at both of my master switches and the driver's door switch is the only one with worn plastic slides.

Let us know if you figure it out.....

Are you getting voltage at the motor with the switch engaged?

From the wiring diagram it looks like the power goes through both the driver's master and the door switch before reaching the motor. Since the window will go down, we know the motor is good. So there is either a bad contact in one of the switches or a break in a wire. Try Calvin's suggestion of moving the door switch to the other door. If the problem follows, the door switch is bad. If the problem doesn't follow, either the driver's master switch is bad or you have a broken wire.

Sounds like it must be the master switch, all the wiring tests out, and the rear switch is brand new. I'll check out the master switch and let you know.

Turns out it was the master switch on the driver's door. I cleaned the contacts and it works fine. Almost bought a new one but thankfully i tried cleaning it first. Thanks for all the help i appreciate it.
