Removing My Angle Gear Assy (from AWD to FWD)

I had a problem about 10 months ago, and thought it was my transmission ($4,900). Turns out they said it was the transmission Angle Gear Box ($2,500). Anyway, it stated with a little hum and quickly turned into a sound like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts (literally)! Now, it's happening again. after searching the internet and reading how some Dealers are keeping quite and suggesting replacement, replacement, replacement. My plan is to remove it, I really don't need it or the $2,500-$3,500 rip off bi-annually. I plan to remove it on Monday. Any Advice?
