Rear wheel bearing?

thank you. I fixed my abs module. and the advise is a great help. I have a 98 v70r. I 've got a little drive line noise. My first thought way a rear wheel bearing. But I can't really hear it on one side or the other. I was wondering if the v704 awd, drive train isn't a little noisy? At this point it just seems a little noisy. I am driving from Fresno, ca to seattle this week. I guess I'll find out if it get worse. Any advise? george g

I have a 98 V70 AWD (not R) but I think the drive train is similar. One of the parts in the front-to-rear drive train that can fail is the front driveshaft flexible coupling where it connects to the angle gear (transfer case). It's in the area near the catalytic converter, and underneath the center console. When mine failed (several years ago) the noise seemed to come from the center console. Also try rolling the windows down and drive past some buildings, and see if it gets louder. In my case the noise was sort of a repetitive metallic ping that changed with car speed. The driveshaft has a similar coupling at the rear, but I think those don't fail as often. Then there is the angle gear itself and a viscous coupling at the rear near the rear differential. I have read that some people have removed the driveshaft to make it a 2 wd, or replaced the entire driveshaft. However, with mine I just fixed the coupling and it has been fine.
