It is a technical question about seat heater hookup on a Volvo 240.
Need reassurance that this would work?
1992 GL 240 134K original mileage.
Sequence of Events:
Seat heat on drivers side went out and the foam was falling out. So, I was going to redo the seats.
Ordered back foam and seat heaters from IPD. Tried to locate seat (bottom) foam but was not available.
Went to auto upholstery and he offered to cut and install the bottom foam, install the seat heaters and the back foam for the same price as the seat (bottom) foam.
Upholstery place got the seats done but informed me that the after market heater from IPD has to be rewired back to the fuse panel.
Looking at the wiring harness and the Volvo connector under the seat by the A/C duct.
Picture 1
Picture above is hand holding the connector to the after market seat heater. Other connector is the original Volvo connector.
Picture 2
Above is a picture of the wiring harness which has a switch and a fuse (fuse not shown).
So here is what I figured I would do --- if it would work?
Since the Volvo & after market connectors don’t match. The existing on/off switches are fine and I don’t like the idea of going back to the fuse box and cobbling it up for these heaters to work.
The Volvo connector has a BL/Y (hot-?) wire and a BL (ground-?) wire.
I would cut the Volvo connector off.
Disconnect the male connector off the wiring harness (which has a R and BLK wire) See below picture.
Picture 3
1. Splice “one end of the after market in line 7.5 amp fuse” to the BL/Y wire (on cut-off Volvo connector).
2. Splice the other end of the after market in line 7.5 amp fuse (not shown but furnished in the package with the after market heater) to the Red wire on the after market male connector that was on the wiring harness.
3. Splice the BLK wire (on cut-off Volvo connector) to the BLK wire on the after market male connector that was on the wiring harness.
The above would basically place a new male connector with an in line 7.5 amp fuse on the “original Volvo” wire above the air duct underneath the passenger seat.
Picture 4
Shorter version of what I tried to say above that it should end up looking like.
This picture shows after market connector connected to after market heater.
1. Would cut the R and BLK wires shorter.
2. Cut the Original Volvo connector off.
3. Place in-line 7.5 amp fuse between R wire and BL/Y wire on (original Volvo connector).
4. Splice the BL wire to BL wire (original Volvo connector).
I think this would work unless I missed something?
Thanks & Take Care!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
That should work and save a lot of time rewiring.
Bill.
