Brake Dust-2009 XC90 R-design
The black brake dust is excessive. I understand there is a Volvo ceramic pad. Has anyone had any experience with brake dust with this pad? Other aftermarket pads?

I changed to Munroe pads on my v40 and it reduced the dust dramaticaly with no difference in stopping. I can't wait to change the ones on the xc90. The factory ones don't last long. The first set was changed by the dealer at 27K and I am now at 46K. Raybestos is a good brand to go with also. The rotors will also be throw aways.

I don't have a solution, but I can add that my mom's 2000 or 2001 V40 spit out brake dust like it was going out of style. It was one of her complaints about the car, and she is not a car person by any stretch.
OEM pads = dust.
Generally speaking, the problem with aftermarket is noise. But you have a vote there from mjl99 about Munroe.

They do offer a "long-life" OEM brake pad, which was released from Volvo not long ago. They have it in both 16" and 17" pad sizes. I'm sure they had many complaints because of the short life of the original pads. They seem to produce less brake dust than the originals as well.

We install Centric pads to resolve this issue. Braking is slighlty better and dust is largely reduced. No noise complaints on this pad.
You must seek out a local brake warehouse from www.centricparts.com and then ask who will install them.
