Power Window Failure

My 1998 Volvo S70 has been having intermittent cutting out of power windows for about a year, particularly when a back window is opened. Over the weekend, we opened one and now the power to the windows isn't coming up at all for several days and the window's a bit open. I checked the fuses, and it suggests one that isn't accessable (37 i think). Whenever the power windows aren't working the side view mirrors also can't be moved. The manual says that those are on fuse 14 which i checked and i think is ok, still need see if the heated back window is heating that's also on that fuse (since i'm not sure if that fuse only refers to the mirror's heating and not their movement). Does anyone have experience with this problem or suggestions? I read ted's post about taking apart the console but i'm unsure if that's called for in this case.

Did you reseat the fuse? Pull it out, replace it with a new one and put that one in. Rule out the simplest fixes first.

I took out the fuse for #14 and put it back. the heated back windows and heated side mirrors are still working. fuse #37 i can't take out easily since it's a circuit breaker and not a regular fuse, manual says shouldn't need to be changed, and it's covered with other parts i will have to remove. i'm surprised that the heat for the mirrors works but not the movement on them. i think it's probably some kind of driver for the solonoids for the windows and mirrors to move. but it's not completely general as the sunroof still opens. however, that's an optional feature, so it's probably got a different driver. I can try to remove the circuit breaker, but am curious if there's more information available for how the movement of the windows and mirrors are controlled or even if there's some kind of override i can use to get the window to go up.

These diagrams suggest a possible link in that they have a Power Window/Power Mirror Console Switch Assembly Running off of Fuse/Circuit Breaker 37. In the power mirror one alone it suggests a different fuse, but that may be just because it's a different model (850). I could possibly take apart the door to test things inside it, or maybe easier would be to change Circuit Breaker 37. Do you know any easy way to get inside that part of the fuse box and/or remove/change that circuit breaker?

I used a torque wrench to open up the fuse box and pulled Fuse #37. When it was out, the sunroof stopped working, suggesting that the fuse is working. I put it back in, sunroof worked again, but still no windows. Since i think it's a more involved electrical problem than i can solve with just fuses, i started taking apart the door, hoping to access the motor that moves the window up and down, and just hotwire that with a battery to get it up. i used the same torque wrench to remove 3 screws from the door (2 on the part that's farthest from the door when it's open and one inside the door near the handle.) however there are two more screws of this type in the outside of the door that seem to strip with the torque wrench i was using and are too small for the next sized torque wrench, as well as a bunch of bolts on the inside part of the door when it's open (by the hinge). any advice on how to open up the door? i may post a new topic on this.
