shift knob swap

hey people I just bought a 440 volvo 5spd manual and was wondering if it would be easy to change the shifter to an aftermarket skull?

or has volvo pulled another awsum trick by making it near impossible lol

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

You don't say which year/engine but VADIS seems to have the same instructions for those I have checked.

1. Remove the gear lever.
Release the dust gaiter from the console and pull it up as far as possible.
Remove the circlip.
Pull the gear lever assembly out of the bracket.

2. Disassemble the gear lever
Clamp the gear lever in a bench vice at an angle of 45 degrees with the knob pointing down.
Remove the knob by placing a 28mm open ended wrench and tapping the wrench with a hammer.

At this point Volvo covers all possible scenarios by adding:
Note! If the knob can not be removed in this way it will have to be removed by destruction.
