Few months ago my engine seized on me while driving at 120 mph(trying to teach some honda guy a lesson...anyway)....only thing I could figure is taht the oil pump gave way. So for a few weeks, I tried to find a used engine.....best I could find was one with 140 000 km on it at 1900$. Then I got lucky and found a wrecked c70 and bargained it at 1700$...lucky because the car had only 12000km.....but was in the yard since 2005. The only damage on the engine was a broken cam pulley ( I later found out, as I suspected that the timing belt was broken as well and 2 valves were bent). I was pretty sure I had to change the valve oil seals anyway since the engine had not run for a long time so it was not a big deal. So I installed the engine....and ran it.....only to realise that the turbo was badly leaking oil....I mean badly!!! So I put the turbo from the wrecked c70 in....same problem but no as bad.... I could see oil bubbling out the downpipe connection. Also found more oil than usual-normal oil in the intercooler pipe that connects to the turbo. I did the usal check to see if the pcv was clogged, but no smoke was coming out of the oil dipstick...someone suggesed I check the pcv anyway so I did....I took it off, blew throught all the pipes, and everything looked.....allmost brand new. So.....I went and bought a turbo at the salvage yard(400$), installed it....Problem solved!!!....No smoke, no oil coming out the exhaust connection.....only to realise that the ose that goes from the pcv "box" to the fresh air ose (near turbo) somehow came loose....I put it back in its place, started the engine, and the smoke came back....as well as the oil bubbling out the downpipe connection...took the ose of again.....and the smoke went away. So I do have a problem with the pcv??....somehow the turbo is sucking in oil from the pcv....but I`m pretty sure it`s not clogged....and ike I said, the engine has only 12000 km on it. Any idea, any guess on why the turbo would suck in as much oil throught the pcv ose??
I`m not sure if its related r not, but I dont get the same boost as before....I`m fairly sure it`s not a problem with the turbo itself.Compression is good(lowest 164, highest 167)....new head gasket...well I changed all the gaskets.....When I floor it, I don`t get, you know, that push, that boost I`d usually get at around 4000-4500 rpm. Could it be the waste gate...a vacuum problem? Really hope someone can help me....and I hope this will help others.
Have a nice day everyone

Hi,
A few questions.
What did you do about the bent valves?
Did you check all of them?
Can you do a leakdown test? sometimes compression readings are misleading as to the overal condition of piston ring sealing over the full stroke of the piston.
First insticnt is that the oil is being pushed by the pistons or valves by the turbo and giving you a loss of oil.
Also check to make sure Flame trap is set up correctly - at one point the instructions had the hoses backwards.
I will keep thinking on this but am certain you have blow by somewhere.
Did you soak the pistons with Seafaom in case the rings are bound up by carbon ?

Hi Jonh, thanks for taking the time ....appreciate it.
Answers to your questions...
About the valves---Yes I cheked them all...and changed the two that were bent.
About your questions regarding the piston rings....remember that the engine has only 8000 miles!
Flame trap is setup correctly, but the problem realy seem t come from there. Tell me....what would make the oil being sucked throught the flam trap ose that connects to the freshair ose?
Hope you can think of something.
Thanks again

Flame trap (AKA oil trap) could have been routed backwards- check it for correct routing.

Wanted to let everyone know that the problem was fix by changing the pcv. So if anyone out there have a smoking problem....white smoke coming out the tail pipe while idling(oil going right throught the turbo in the exhaust pipe).... or puffs of blue smoke coming at low rpm after a gear change (oil being pushed in the combustion chamber throught the intake manifold)....check the pcv first!!!! One easy way I found is to disconnect the pipe that goes from the pcv to the fresh air hose(near turbo) and run the engine to see if white moke came out the tail pipe.
It is a cheap fix... but takes a few hours to change.
Have a nice day everyone.

Can you write some more about how the PCV can be routed backwards? I had the oil trap changed and the PCV cleaned some months ago (obviously the volvo dealer never ever cleaned it, it was totally clogged and the plastic pipe broke to hundreds of pieces), and I want to make sure it is installed correctly now!
Thanks,
Thanks,
