2000 S70 GLT SE oil light and stalling and knocking

Post by crisleggett »

Just today the car started to rattle from the engine almost a grinding. On the way home from school today the rattle worsened and smoke cam from engine compartment. When I pulled in the drive oil light came on checked the levels and they were fine also no indication of overheating from gauge. When I took the extremely hot oil fill cap off smoke came barreling out of the fill hole. I've had a leaky overfill tank for a while now just fill it up bout a pint or so everyday.. Now the car will hardly start idle or move. Please help. is it the oil pump have I damaged the engine. Please advise.

Thank you,

I highly recommend avoiding driving the car.it should sit until you find out whats the problem.. otherwise there might be a serious damage in the engine.

+1, I hope the engine is not already past the point of no return. Rattling in an engine and a oil pressure light is a bad sign. Most times, once the oil pressure light comes on, you are already past the point of no return.

Sounds like about how my Saab died...after we got it back from the mechanic, the oil light was on, which he said was 'just a short'. 2 days later, the engine ripped itself apart. I loved that car :(
