gearbox for 460

can anybody help me with this problem? :
i've got a volvo 460 1,8 i with multipoint injection from 1995 and need at new gearbox for it.
the question is: can i fit a gearbox from a B18u motor into my B18EP motor???
both motors is 1,8(1,7 on the papers)... and both motors gearbox numbers starts with M55-373M....
Whats the difference between these motors? is it just the injection(single or multipoint) or will you ahve problems fitting gearbox and wires for speedometer etc etc..
hope somebody can help me with this. wouldnt want end up with a useless gearbox and a bill to pay for something i cant use for my car..

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Volvo fitted two types of gearbox to the 460, the JB3 and the JC5. They aren't interchangeable.

However, the code M55-373M is a JB3 box and was used across the range of cars.

If you are looking at a used replacement the only thing to consider is the speedometer drive. Some cars were electronic and some were cable driven. Obviously the drives on the boxes would be different. That is something that you should check. The seller of the box should be able to tell you which speedo was fitted to the donor car.

I am sorry that is all the information I have on the gearboxes for the 460 but, hopefully, it will be of some help.
