2004 XC90 clicking sound backing up and driving
I noticed a clicking clunking like sound while backing up into my parking spot at work. Took to Volvo and, of course, they heard nothing but said they checked suspension and it was ok. The sound has become more frequent and is now clicking/clunking while I am driving down the road. I have only 44K miles on this car. Any ideas what it could be?? I am furious that I will have to pay Volvo $92/hr. again to check the same problem.

CV Joints. Is it worse in a sharp corner? If the rubber boots rip, the joints could go bad in a hundred miles. Do a Google search for "RAXLES" for reasonably priced replacement axle assemblies.

It is your driveshaft $1000 and a clinking type sound is experienced. I am assuming it is AWD. A somewhat common issue and more so on a 04 XC90. It can easily be diagnosed with the vehicle in drive up on a lift also the AWD system should be inspected for operation at the same time.

The front cv joint on your driveline may be all you need to get rid of the "clicking" sound. That joint is binding.
