V70 XC 2001 Wheel Judder

Post by JohnBuckles »

Our 2001 V70XC has developed an occasional wheel/suspension judder. It has 120k on the clock and has given few problems so far (Apart from fractured front springat 80k)

This normally occurs between 30-40mph and comes (I think) from the LHS.....accelerating, or laying off the power makes the judder disappear. Its made worse by rumble strips......before I brave the local dealer any suggestions?

Many thanks,

John

Can you discribe this Judder a little better. Does it shake or what. I have this same vehicle.

Hi.....

Driving at about 30-40mph, and I think with a slight right lock, a sharp juddering comes through the car....it has quite a frequency of 2-3 per second and is quite strong. Applying power, or the opposite stops the judder.

I suspect ns front wheel, could it be bearings?

Could be wheels need to be balanced or CV Axle going bad.
I would get the front end off the ground check for play in side to side in your tie rods also.

Worse case take it to a tire /front end aliegnment shop place tell them what your experiencing ask them what they would charge to take a look at it.
Most places that are worth any thing will do this part for free.
But then get a 2nd opionion from somewhere else on what they say.
I go to expert tire. or Pep Boys. If they sell suspension parts guess what parts they will find bad on your car? Thats why I would get a 2nd opinion.
They can take you out in the shop and show you how bad a tie rod is.
Quick look usually may cost you 40 bucks
