intermintent stalling/erratic shift problems 92 960

Post by seleris92 »

Has anyone experienced stalling , or 3 cylinders being taken out by the computer / with a 92 960 ? also the transmission will hold 4th gear til about 2mph and then release .
I've replaced the ECT transmission switch , and the neutral safety switch .....although with ScanTech parts . I've also checked the hot and ground side of the battery cables , which seem to be ok . I thermo gunned the cables when the engine was hot and the cable ends were about 98*F .
I've also checked the grounds at the computer as well as cleaned the factory diaelectric grease at the computer connector.
I removed the intake , with the advice of a friend and checked the grounds at the engine mount and the some of the other wiring that is part of the wiring loom that is hard to access with the intake in place.

It seems that if I leave the car for a couple of weeks of not driving , that the problems kinda go away , although not completely .
When the problem first started , it stalled once , then after about 6 months it started having shift problems . After about a 8 months , the stalling problems started to come into play .
anyone have any ideas?

The three cylinders dropping out may be caused by a failing power stage, these control the spark to cylinders.
Do you know what cylinders are acting up? If so, there are two power stages and each one controls three cylinders, you can swap them and see if the cylinder change.

Do you get any codes? Is the check engine light on? You should also check for stored codes because not all codes will turn the check engine light on.

The trans problem may be that you need to do a fluid flush. When was the fluid last changed, is the color bright red, does the fluid have an acrid odor? Use synthetic fluid if you do the flush.
