TrueDelta reports actual repair frequences, which makes the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

Though 150 S80 owners have signed up already, more are needed to fully cover all model years. So I'm very grateful for this forum (and especially MadeInJapan) for helping to get the word out.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for their car, for free.

We've updated the results to include owner experiences through September 30, 2009. The reported repair rate for the 2008 S80 and V70 was 44 repair trips per 100 cars per year, which is about average.

Everyone who has been helping, thanks, I certainly appreciate it. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover all model years.

We've updated results for the S80, V70, and XC70 to include owner experiences through December 31, 2009. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2008: 53, about average

2009: 180, small sample size and clearly not accurate

Just enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful.

191 S80 owners now signed up. Better, but for the first-gen the May results will only barely include the 2000. More participants continue to be needed for all years.

We've updated results for the S80 to include owner experiences through March 31, 2010. With a reported repair frequency of 152 repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2000 S80 is about average. But the sample size is very small, so this result is less precise.

This coming week we'll start previewing the next set of results to participants. The preview results will be updated as responses come in--for me it's like watching the results of a presidential election, only four times a year.

More participants remain needed to fully cover all model years of the S80.

Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2000: 221, worse than average, very small sample size

1999: 211, worse than average, very small sample size
