SRS Reset procedure
Checked the repair database and found an SRS reset procedure for the 240 posted by Dave (MIJ). Is there one for the 850??

Depends on which 850, Wolfy...if it's one of the older ones with the modules under the hood, yes...otherwise, dealer or a few different software that are proprietary...

If you mean for your '97, you can do it with one of these:

It'll reset that pesky "Service Interval Light", too!

Ah...forgot about that- I actually have one of those I use on my '98 S70 but never tried (never had a need) to reset the SRS light on it.

Hey Dave how you been? I never seem to be on line at the same time with you.
Anyway, the SRS light is on my daughters 95.
Lost compression for no "known" reason in #'s 1 & 4 a few months back. Did a swap but I guess I didn't pull the heater core lines completely out and broke the inlets off the core. I pulled the dash to replace it so (SOOOO much fun by the way
), while I was in there I put in a new evap core as well. Got it all back together and had no power to the cluster, switches or head lights. I found a large red connector that had come loose, you could barely tell. So, I pushed it back together not thinking I had the battery reconnected or that th SRS system might be powered through that plug....guess it was. Now I have a light.
My sons 97R has been a JEWEL! He had a pretty good oil leak so, I had to replace o-rings on the oil lines at the cooler and the seal between the cooler and block/oil pan. $6 and hour and a half of work.

Wolfy- there are short cuts right... disconnect battery leads...wait 15 mins...touch the wires together (not with battery!)... push down the brake pedal at the same time and you should reset all of your codes but you'll have to drive it a bit if you have to be "ready" as in for emissions as the adaptive reset when you do this too. Good luck- hope you didn't bugger something up behind the dash.

My SRS light is still on after leaving battery disconnected for a couple of hours. Which wires do you touch together when the negative cable is off? Which ones must NOT be touched together?

I thought that it's impossible to reset the codes this way.Is this for pre '96 models only?MadeInJapan wrote:Wolfy- there are short cuts right... disconnect battery leads...wait 15 mins...touch the wires together (not with battery!)... push down the brake pedal at the same time and you should reset all of your codes but you'll have to drive it a bit if you have to be "ready" as in for emissions as the adaptive reset when you do this too. As far as i "learned" till now...all of the codes remains memorised in the ecu untill reset.Disconnecting battery terminals will only reset fuel trims and check engine light on instrument cluster, but codes remain memorised.
Right?

I just added this to Jim's thread (its from the service menu):
On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit performs 2 tests: a start-up
test and a cyclical test. During start-up test, microprocessors
perform complete system diagnosis. Faults will not be recorded until
start-up test has been repeated 1 or 2 more times. Cyclical test is
performed 4 times per second. Faults must be detected during 2
successive measurements before they will be stored. After a fault has
been detected for 10 seconds, it will be stored, and SRS warning light
will be turned on. When faults are detected, SRS warning light will
remain on until they are corrected and cleared from OBD.

Negative and positive battery lead together (minus the battery), but one of the previous posters might be right- SRS may be one of those that has to be reset from the OBD and there are no shortcuts for it.
