Erie Vo-Vo Experience

Post by milesursogood »

Has anyone had any past buying experience from Erie Vo-Vo in NY? I'm curious why they aren't BBB accredited nor they are a member of the local Mohawk (Whitesboro, NY) Chamber of Commerce.

I just bought an engine from them for my 1995 850 nonturbo. The new(used) engine has 104K. I am in the process of installing it now but will probably take me a couple more weeks as I wait for parts(seals/gaskets). The engine appears to be in good shape, but of course I'll know a lot more after it is installed. For what its worth the PVC system was quite clean and the timing belt shows no wear. The engine is very clean on the outside and the intake and exhaust opening look as you would expect if you had just removed the manifolds. I'm not sure how they get the engines so clean without fouling the manifold openings. The camshaft gear and timing belt pulleys are somewhat stained with an apparent cleaning solution however there is very little residue left on them. The crankshaft pulley does show some corrosion but I'm hoping to clean the up with a scotch brite pad. The engine was shipped on its side on top of two old tires placed on a shipping pallet with a wooden frame built over the engine covered in plastic wrap. There was no damage to the engine in shipping except for minimal bending of a coolant pipe on the back of the engine. That's it for now, Dwight

I have purchased a few items, mostly trim type pieces and switches from Erie Vo-Vo via eBay and they have been totally stand up as far as I am concerned. On a lot of stuff I find them to be expensive but they accurately describe what they are selling and then ship it quickly.

I can only imagine the freight charges and shipping time to Eagle River for an engine. In a former life I sold hardware and sporting goods, my territory was Alaska, Hawaii (where I was based) and the rest of the Pacific. It seems like it took UPS a full month to get anything from the warehouse in Kansas to my clients in Alaska and that was small boxes. The freight often equaled the price of the order. I have been everywhere from Barrow to Ketchikan. I even had a client in Sand Point that I went to visit.
