854T5 1995 gauge cluster lights

Post by will bj robinson »

my gauge lights went out in two steps first the left side of the tach and the a few weeks later the rest went out without warning. Before I fix the problem I was wondering if this is common and if so what causes it? and how can it be fixed? also all the switch lights and hvac control lights still work. Any help with this is greatly appreciated :?

I guess that no replys means that there just burnt out bulbs so, next question. will a s70 gauge cluster bolt in and connect to an 850 dash? the only thing im not sure of is the odo issue. Thank you.

I'm sorry, not that I am the guru but it sounds like you have a burned out bulb or two or your dimmer switch is bad. In your case it very well could be a combination of both problems.

the dimmer still works on the hvac and switches, thats most of the reason I asked because if it were the dimmer it should have killed all the lights. Right? Will one burnt bulb cause the whole cluster to go out?

Bulbs burning out is normal...just like oil getting old. So don't think that its unusual that they did burn out. I'm not sure whether an s70 consul can be plugged into an 850. However, I think that the 850 gauge clusters are a lot classier than the s70 ones. If you are unclear about replacing the bulbs its very easy. This explains how to remove the cluster:
-> https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =+Odometer

Follow most of those instructions w/ the exception of removing the odometer, although if you haven't done it already it may be worth it to replace the 2 gears b/c they WILL break. lol

Will one burnt bulb cause the whole cluster to go out?
No, they are wired in parallel.

Check the connector to the cluster and the pink wire.

thanks Ozark. Thats what i was looking for, how how the lights went out seemed fishy too me thats why I posted my initial question. I've seen one bulb or maybe a few but first the right side of the tach and later the rest of the cluster goes out was weird.
