New Volvo s40
Very happy with my new acquisition. I drove Accords for years and really like the s40s drive. Here's a dumb question, has anyone else felt that the gas and brake pedals are just too close together? I can't find a truly comfortable leg/foot position and my foot is always rubbibg against the brake or the side wall carpet next to the accelerator. The dealer said he had not heard of this complaint before, but I really think there may be a design flaw. Or, is it me? Thanks.

It's not you. There have been lots of posts in various forums about not enough room for two feet and two or three pedals in the new S40. The problem is worse for manual transmission drivers and those with big feet. However, most people who complained about the pedals also say they love the car and the ride. I got used to the pedals, but would have difficulty driving with storm boots. At this point, 2,700 miles, I find the car very comfortable. Like you, my last car was an Accord, which became my son's car when we bought the S40 T5. Have fun.

Thanks. I'm actually relieved to know that others found this unusual situation. I too love the ride and am getting used to the spacing. I have about 1,300 miles on the car. I hope that by 2,700 miles, I know instinctively where to place my feet! Enjoy the ride.

I have 150 miles on my new 05 s40, and love it! I also asked my dealer about the pedals being so close together. My first test drive, I was wearing Doc Marten's shoes (boots?), and found myself touching the brake when pressing the gas pedal.
Oh well, the car drives like a dream, and I'm already used to the pedals now.
