Hello,
Yesterday I changed all the turbo and coolant hoses on my 1998 Volvo XC70.
The job took all day.
When I closed the hood to test drive the hood felt odd when it closed. Or maybe I think that now. Or maybe I left a rag in there, or maybe not.
I returned from my short test drive, and I sought to open the hood again, it would not open.
The driver's side lifts up, but the passenger's side is stuck fast. From a search, it usually breaks the other way around. Driver's side cable breaks at the connection point and the hood won't budge with the hood lever.
If anyone has had this problem, or has a fix, please help.
Thank you
hood stuck

In the hopes that it's only an out of adjustment cable, enlist a helper and one of you pull up on the hood while the other pulls the hood release lever. If that does the trick, pull the kick panel off under the steering wheel and adjust the hood release cable (it'll require an open end wrench for the adjusting nut behind the lever).

It won't be easy and you may have to remove that cylindrical air conditioner thingy, but it you may be able to reach the latch from under the car. With pliers you may be able to pull the latch manually. If I can find my camera I will send a picture of the passenger side latch so you can tell where the lever is.

Here is a picture of the latch (looking toward the front of the car) with the two notched levers on the bottom. You can pull either one - the lever where the cable attaches or the empty lever on the other side of the latch. Both levers pull toward the centerline of the car.
Good luck. There is plenty of room on the driver's side but not much at all on the passenger side. It may not be possible to get an arm up in there. Maybe you can hook a looped clothes hanger around the inside lever. Hopes this helps.
Edit: Here is another idea. The hood release lever in the car only pulls the driver side latch, but that latch pulls the passenger side in turn. If you can reach the driver side latch maybe you can push on it's levers (to the outside of the car) and it will open the passenger latch.

I have the same problem. The right side lock does not pop open. Cable is ok. I could get the cable from de other side and pull it with a plyer. However de lock does not open.

Very important to know, you can get to the latch through the grill?
I ask because i can get my grill out without too much trouble and not wreck anything.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Try removing the turn signal assembly, and use a hook tool to trip the latch directly.rjongejans wrote: ↑06 Aug 2022, 21:04 Anyone who knows a solucion? The hood is closed, only the open een few centimeters on the drivers side.
Robert only shows the drivers side, but the same thing should work on the passenger side, unless the latch itself has failed - that would be pretty rare.

Just reach up between the drivers side headlight and the battery and push / trip the lever on the latch. That will release both catches. You might need a second hand pushing down on the passenger side of the hood. This assumes that your plastic air glide under the engine is already removed. No need to disassemble anything.
