XC90 transmission - often stuck in Park

Hi All, my XC90 has started suffering from being stuck in park, particularly in the morning. What happens is that once you pull the release trigger on the auto shift lever, it really doesnt want to move backwards into the drive position. What I end up doing is using both hands, with trigger depressed, yank it back with a "cluck" into drive.

Obviously this is not right. Any help or ideas whats up and how to fix it?

Is this commonplace?
