V70/XC 1999 Clanging noise from below.

Post by brtff20 »

I have a V70/XC with 125,000 miles on it. I'm getting a loud clanging noise almost like something is striking one of the wheels as it moves. The noise only appears when the car is warmed up, and while in motion. The speed of the noise is directly related to the speed of travel, and seems to get louder during a slow turn. Although it is faint at higher speeds it is louder at lower speeds. I have checked all the heat shields on the exhaust nothing is loose. I have checked the front suspension and steering nothing is loose that I can tell. Both front struts and sway bar links are new and all appear to be functioning normally. I have been trying to pin this down for two weeks now, if anyone has any ideas of what this might be I'm open to opinions, cause I can't find it.

I have one guess based on problems I have had with a 98 V70XC
It could be the transaxle on the front left wheel. This is particularly suspect as it sounds worse in a slow turn.
