Can the OBD reset the SRS light?????

Post by wig » Sat Jan 02, 2010 8:09 am

Hi there, I'm new to this forum, but very glad I found it! I have a 440 2.0i on a late N (96) Special Eds.

I had to replace the indicator switch and in order to do that I had to disconnect the airbag, not a problem until I had to drive the car without it fitted, to get a 24mm socket to remove the steering wheel!

Since then the SRS (airbag) light has been on. My own fault for being in a rush to get it done! I was just wondering if the OBD (on board diagnostics) system would be able to take the light off, reset the system? Or maybe  (ill try this now and report back) if I disconnected the battery for 10 mins or so, and see if it resets itself????

Any help would be really useful and gratefully received!
I'll report back if disconnecting the battery works!

All the best, and thanks in advance,

Wig! :D

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

In case disconnecting the battery didn't work you can use the OBD to delete SRS codes.

Use socket 7 and follow the instructions in the "how to" in the announcements at the top of the forum.

Hi Bill, thanks for the reply! The battery disconnection didn't work, and I tried the OBD in number 2 and tested, it came back with a 212 code, which does not fit in with the srs light, as per your 'how to' pdf file! I've run out of time for tonight, but ill try position 7 in the morning! I take it I just do exactly the same as Ive done already with number 2, just with the cable plugged in to number 7! (I've never messed with these before, so forgive me if I'm wrong!)

Cheers for your help!

Wig!

2-1-2 in socket 2 is the heated oxygen sensor. Read the codes again in socket 2 then erase any that come up. Run the car and see if the code returns.

Use socket 7 in exactly the same way as socket 2.

Hi bill! I used the autodata disc at work, and 212 was the airbag light, in pin 7 like you said!

Many thanks for your help in this! Although the chart for the codes you have put up, seems to be incorrect for my vehicle! But still, it's all sorted!

Thanks again!
