I changed the oil on the wifes 98 S70T5 yesterday and now on occasion im getting a slight tick. I used castrol 10w30 syn. blend and added that "moly" additive to the oil. I can say the car seems alot more peppy with the additive and it starts no prob. with the cold weather.
Due to lack of time i couldnt get a volvo filter for it so i used a fram which was on the car prior. It didnt tick at start up or running. Now, after the oil change no tick at start up but it does a very slight tick occassionally while running. Anyone have issues after an oil change like this ???
oil change = slight tick

I think the reason is the filter.almost everyone on this forum says that oem volvo or mann filters should be used.. other filters will cause problems..

I can see a filter without check valve causing the startup tick you describe, but a tick while running is likely unrelated. I've had a continuous tick - stuck lifter(s) for several months now, ever since a SeaFoam treatment. It was suggested I try changing oil type/weight, but that didn't work for me. It might for you, though, along with installing a proper oil filter.

Phil,
Change the filter to a Volvo or Mann brand (makes the Volvo).
I have seen this before and discounted it the first time it happened. Sometimes we would replace the new Fram with another new Fram and it would stop ticking. I have no explanation but because of this we stopped using anything but Volvo or Mann on the 850 back in 1996.
I would assume it would be a lack flow issue. We cut open the Fram's and we see no blockages other than the filter media.
I checked your owners manual and 10W-30 shoud be fine for the temps in Indiana right now.
Best Wishes and let us know how it turns out.

Your right on this, I will vouch for the Amsoil filter. Just thought someone other than a dealer should suggest that filtershilander wrote:Volvo, Mann, or AMSOIL EaO oil filters
