ETM failure

New to the site. Howdy! Excellent help here. Wifes 2001 S80 T6 started surging at cold idle. Once warm it quit. Drove it a few miles did fine. She drove it the next day and said it came to a close stall afew times. Soooo ....... did some research here and sounds like the ETM. Correct assumption? Or at least a symtom? Pulled the ETM, a pain i may add, and it is fairly dirty. Has a white sticker. Heading to get some carb cleaner and a new gasket. Question? After a cleaning, and car runs ok, should i consider a replacement ETM?

The cleaning you're apparently going to do won't buy you any security or reliability. Your wife is still going to be at risk, and the ETM WILL fail again. It's just a matter of time. You are putting your wife at risk by using the white label ETM - or any OEM Volvo ETM for that matter!

Replace it with:

1) A Volvo YELLOW label ETM (a failure will occur with a new Volvo OEM ETM eventually) NOT RECOMMENDED - or

2) An Xemodex modified ETM - the only permanent fix there is (assuming that there is not an electronic circuitry failure).

I don't think you should use carbuerator cleaner on the ETM module...
