No power brakes in the morning

Post by vallokid »

I have seen a couple of posts with similar problems with different recommendations. I have no power brakes in the morning. After I drive a very short distance, to the end of my driveway, the brakes respond properly. But, initially backing out of my garage is anyone's guess as to when I will stop. I see from posts that it may be a vacuum leak, and that makes a lot of sense. The question is where the leak may be? Any ideas would be great. I recently bought this 2003 s40 with 86k. It is in pretty good condition but needs a little body work. The car runs great and handles excellent. This is my first Volvo and so far I can say, I am becoming a very big fan.

Sounds like a bad master cylinder, a bad caliper, or a bad bleed job - in any case, needs to be fixed ASAP.

I'm willing to bet the brake vacuum switch is failing and causing the leak. It is attached to the brake booster and has two other vacuum lines coming off of it. We sell these like crazy, it is part number 30620958 for ch#685754- and up.

It was the brake hose/vacuum switch. Thanks for the help!

I need that part for my 2001 V40 T4. Do you ship to Mexico? Is the part number the same as above?

Hi my S40 chassis number is 001483 for 2003 S40 with B4204T4 engine. Do I still use part number 30620958?

Hi I got the image for p/n 30616993 but not sure what I get when I order this part. Are the numbers 13, 14, 15, 16,17 and 18 from image or just 13?

Thanks for the tip OEMVOLVOPARTS. It's the brake vacuum switch on my 2003 V40. See how I replaced it on the attached document with pictures.

Brilliant 89USN.Have exactly the same symptons.Brakes hardly working from cold (pedal spongey) then would gradually firm up.I'm hoping this applies to my 2003 s40 1.9d.My problem has only developed during last week, where weather has got noticeably colder.
