Left Front Noise From Tire, Bearing Or?

My V70 has a sound coming from the left front tire or wheel or?
I can hear what sounds like I had a snow tire on the that rim it changes with each pavement type, From the passenger seat this sound can not be heard,the right front dosn,t make this noise. All the tires are recent,round and balanced, It is REALLY bugging me..Any other V70s doing this?

Hello, Mine's not. Jack up both front wheels; spin, listen and compare. Remove the tires and spin both rotors. Tire type and condition? Try a front to rear tire rotation and listen for a change. How many miles on this vehicle? Apparently it's not too loud if it can't be heard from the passenger's seat. Kira

I have new new rotors and have done all that you suggest, noise starts
at about 40k??

See if you have this circular spray around your axle assembly...

...if you do then it is time to replace it. When it goes bad it has the tendency to make noise while driving.

Hey ESNOYER,
I have yet to get to the noisy part on my leaking axle assembly, but it was described to me as a clacking sound, very local to the side of the driveshaft which is bad. Make sure when looking for the leak to turn the wheel all the way to the opposite side; that ought to give you a good view of the area.

Finaly got to look under and around left front wheel,no oil spray but now hear a clacking sound when I go around a corner
and the road is bumpy or broken up,It still makes a sound like an aggresive tire tread on the left front wheel . Did you get yours repaired yet?

ESNOYER,
that clacking noise most likely is a bad joint, therefore a replacement of the driveshaft is the most logical solution. I just got done replacing mine myself and very soon will write my report with pictures on this website. I am by no means a mechanic, but was able to replace it myself with some help from my father in law.

It has been a long time since discussing my left front tire noises,had the following work done,left contol arm,both shock upper bearings and sping mounts,clatering sounds gone. BUT still have the same sound only from the front tire that makes a whow, whow noise with each rotation. The all weather Michelin and now the Geslavid snow tire make the same left front noise,the tires are round and balanced,If I sit in any other seat ...NO Sound ,its making me nuts (Almost)

Wheel bearing! That is my guess. Does it get louder when you go around curves?
