2002 v70 xc Transmission issues not fixed

Post by benweekes »

Hi I hope you guys can help me.I bought this car with a 130,000 miles on it.It drove perfect no issues then one day I started having transmission issues. The car was trying to stall when coming to stop.Only three times did it actually stall. Also when I would take off from a stop it would sometimes be in second gear not first and sometimes it was fine. This happened for two days I took to the dealership that said (after the $200 diagnostic fee)that the transmission fluid was in horrible shape and that was most likely varnish on the trany parts that was making it stick and not shift. They said that a flush would remove any sediment and the detergent in the additives would clean the varnish.I picked up the car and was told that the car may still have of the same issues for a few days but driving the car would help clean out the varnish. It is now 10 days later and the car is sticking in gear sometimes first gear and sometimes second if I shift the car into d3 or low it has no effect. The dealership says a second flush would clear up the problem I'm not so sure any help would be really appreciated.

Hello, Is your car a 1999 or a 2002? It sounds like you don't touch the car yourself. That's too bad because it'll be pricey every time you have a question about anything. Which dealership did you go to in Connecticut? What did they say the diagnostics told them? How much did they charge for the flush? How many miles did you put on the car in those 10 days? The skeptic in me thinks additional flushing won't help, but you never know. You should try to flush and fill the transmission yourself if you can. It would be much cheaper. After my 2 drain-and-fills, which helped, the TCM download added another bit of improvement. The remaining symptom was called a double bump-a soft pulse upon the first gear engagement of a trip-very easy to live with. The bimbo at the dealership blythely said that would mean a transmission replacement someday. I'll try my hand at a valve body replacement when the time comes. Your description sounds worse. We've all been cast adrift by Volvo. Tell us what they told you and go easy with those run-on sentences, they're hard to read. Kira
