Welcome to MVS 5.0

Post by matthew1 »

My mind is toast, so I won't write much.

I know not everything looks good, I'm getting to the things that need attention. But the bulk of the update is done. In the next week you'll see the little things fixed, then a couple new features. Then some tutorials on how to transition to the new forum controls (if necessary).

thx
Matt

Good job Matt, the new site looks great! I never did take the chance to look at the beta site, so I guess I was in for the same surprise as everyone else

Thanks so much, guys.

I will make available a setting you can choose in your User Control Panel that will put the avatars and user profile information back on the left. I know that's probably disorienting for some.

That was widely discussed in the phpBB forum software community when it came out in 2007.

Went to bed on MVS 4.0, came back today to a totally new, very professional MVS 5.0.

Well done, Matt.

I'm loving the new look. Very clean and web 2.0

Thank you, sirs.

The forum theme is very web 2.0. Good adjective, Brewmaster.

One reason I wanted to move to it is that the uploading function is laid out better for users. A couple months ago I found an admin area that reported that we had something like 150 orphaned attachments -- files that users uploaded while posting, but fail to actually add to the post. That's a clear sign the upload controls were not well.

Prosilver's upload is much cleaner, and I think it will help with that orphan rate.

One large snafu last night, besides my host not wanting to do a backup snapshot in a reasonable amount of time, is that Prosilver's CSS selectors (the style of the forums pages) have many name collisions with WordPress' CSS selectors (the style of the Repair Database and everything else non-forum).

If you see things that just don't look right, it's because I'm still untangling that spaghetti.
