1999 XC70 Drivers door won't open from inside or outside
Two days ago my drivers side door stopped opening from the inside or outside. Being 6'4" makes climbing over the center console extremely fun. I have taken the door apart and tried to remedy the problem myself but to no avail. I also took the panel off of the passenger door to see if I could see any inconsistencies, but it is a tight spot and was not sure of what I was actually looking for. I could really use some help on this one, because I cannot afford to take it somewhere to get fixed. Thanks!

It sounds like youve had some linkage come loose at the door handle. Your gonna have to take it apart again and see exactly whats broken. If you can take a pic of it and post on here and we can help you more.

If you happen to have AAA coverage, call a locksmith and let them deal with it. Otherwise, you'll have to go about trying to remove the door panel, which is going to be a major pain with the door shut. You might have to break it, as it's held on around the edges by clips.

I managed to get the door panel off with the door shut. But the latch assembly is confusing. Is there a certain lever or pin that I can push or pull to release the door latch...once I have access (with the door shut)?
I tried yesterday to figure out what was lose but I had no luck.

Im not sure exactly how the xc's are hooked up but if the handle wont open ouside or inside then its gotta be some kind of rod or something attaching these two together.
You should be able to push up on the door actuator and unlock the door. I assume you dont have keyless entry ??

I wish I could find a picture.
But, there's a cable that connects from the inside of the door handle to the latch itself. If you are able to tug on the part of this that it latches to, it SHOULD pop open. Unless the latch itself is just jammed up entirely. A screwdriver and a hit to the door catch may be able to free that up.

The 850 was a better design in that regard, but the handles also fell off. It seems like everyone has a problem with the doors no matter what model they have.
