850 dash lights go out

Post by mbcdg »

I cant seem to identify any link to this problem. I have checked the fuses.. and battery. I'm going to check the altenator.

At night, I start the car turn the lights on, then a few minutes later the instrument panel lights will go out. They will not come on again unless I turn the car off. Then when I restart, it only takes a few seconds for it to happen again. :?:
Just try'n to fix somethin'!

I had a simular problem with my 850 -93. The instumentlights went of, and when I smashed on the instrumentpanel the lights came back! The problem was the lightswitch! I replaced the lightswitch and I haven

Yes this is the switch.

It was a recall for my car 1997 850R. However the switch went out in the same way you described and the dealer informed me that they did the recall work earlier and I would have to pay for this replacement $50 (I think). Did they do the recall work or not? Hard to tell , all I know is I'm short $50 for a bad light switch that has been in the same position since the day after I purchased my car. If you jiggle the switch a little it can cause the lights to come back on.

However I recommend you get it fixed since it will eventually effect the driving lights also. It did with me. Ask your dealer about the recall.
